As immigration stories evolve, so too is does language we use to talk about them

NPR recently changed how reporters talk about immigration on air and in pieces for the website. Tony Cavin, NPR's Managing Editor of Standards and Practices, talks us through some of this guidance.



The main idea is that language surrounding immigration is constantly evolving and needs to be updated to reflect changing realities and sensitivities. NPR acknowledges this by recently revising its guidance for reporters to ensure their language is accurate, respectful, and avoids perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
